One of the many cool features pointed out during the Google Performance Summit in May was the addition of shopping ads in the image search results of Google. Here is an example of what they’ll look like:
As you can see, this is a great new opportunity for advertisers because the user is looking for visual inspiration and this meshes well with the visual presentation of shopping ads. However, to get this cool feature, there is one detail you’ll need to remember – OPT IN TO SEARCH PARTNERS!
My inner cynic says this is just to make more revenue by opening up additional placements across the mysterious “partner network” where advertisers have less control. However, in this case I still recommend you test it out because the potential outweighs the risk. Give yourself a test budget and see how it does. If results aren’t what you need, pause the effort.
Aimed At Pinterest
This is all the more intriguing to me because it seems aimed directly at Pinterest, which is basically a huge image search engine where people have done all the categorization with their pins. Pinterest of course offers promoted pins (which Google is using as the name for their ads in Google Maps, but that’s another post) and this allows Google to further monetize its image search. And with the volume of searches Google receives, it could add up to a lot of revenue really quick.
