If you’ve watched any television over the last 3 weeks you’ve probably seen at least one of the Subway commercials for their JanuANY promotion. From their website:
Notice that asterisk? Here’s what it says:
January only. Excludes Premium and Supreme subs. Prices and participation may vary. Additional charge for extras. Plus Tax. Prices higher in HI and AK.
First off, sorry to the Hawaiians and Alaskans. Second, Subway has “Regular”, “Premium” and “Supreme” sandwiches? Here was the experience I had when I headed to Subway with my wife.
My Subway Experience
We arrived and waited to order. My wife wanted the Chicken & Bacon Ranch Melt so we told the employee that’s what we wanted. His response: “That’s not one of the $5 footlongs. Is that okay?”
My thoughts “Of course not, your commercial says that any sandwich is $5”.
Seeing my confusion, he stated that only the regular subs were $5. We switched to the Sweet Onion Chicken Terayaki and moved on, but I was a little miffed and decided to pose the question here.
Is The JanuANY Promotion a Bait and Switch?
My biggest problem lies in the clarity of the signage. Subway has obviously divided their offering into the three categories from the footnote; Regular, Premium, and Supreme. However, in the store I couldn’t easily tell which was which. The website has no mention of “Premium” or “Supreme” subs as far as I could find (and I looked all the way down to the site map). That’s probably my biggest gripe.
What do you think?
